A very important aspect within the BioSafety protocol of a livestock farm is pest control, both in terms of prevention and treatment. Depending on the type of species, there are risks that must be controlled in order to avoid problems affecting animal welfare and, consequently, production rates. This is why the use of insecticides allows us to act in this type of situation.

CAUSES OF INSECT PROBLEMS

There are several factors that encourage insects:

Temperature: insects generally need warm conditions in order to reproduce at a higher incidence. This is why warmer times of the year see higher numbers. For example, in situations where the temperature rises above 28 degrees Celsius, their reproduction rate increases by up to 50 %.
Humidity: Humidity is another factor to take into account in the appearance of insects. For example, in areas where there is stagnant water, the presence of mosquitoes is much greater.

There are two types of insects to consider:

Diptera: these are flies, mosquitoes and horseflies. They undergo metamorphosis during their life cycle and the adults feed on liquids (nectar, blood, etc.).
Crawlers: fleas, cockroaches, spiders, ticks, ants, etc. These are those that cannot fly.
